These popular all day workshops cover specific subjects and technique in greater detail than is possible in the weekly classes. They also enable students to try out a new style or different materials before committing to a full course.
TECHNICAL WORKSHOPS
The aim of these workshops is to concentrate on a specific aspect of painting or drawing that will enhance your work. By having a whole day we can cover a subject in much more depth and allow time for demonstrations and practical work. All workshops will run from 10 until 4 with a break for lunch. Complimentary tea or coffee and biscuits will be provided throughout the day. The primary medium will be watercolour but the concepts discussed in each of the workshops can be easily adapted for use in other mediums. All students will be provided with a detailed list of materials upon confirmation of the booking.
Places are limited so early booking by email to davidlewry@hotmail.co.uk is advised. Workshops take place in St James Church Barn, Church End, Biddenham.
USING WATERCOLOUR PENCILS
Saturday 4th June £39
Watercolour pencils have become increasingly popular over the last few years. We will look at the various makes and formulations available and look at different techniques that can be used. We will cover coloured and graphite pencils as well as the popular Neocolor II range by Caran D'Ache which are superb for producing large areas of intense colour. This will be an ideal opportunity to experiment with some of the different ranges before committing to buying a whole set.
PUTTING FIGURES IN LANDSCAPES AND TOWNSCAPES
Saturday 2nd July £39
Adding figures to your paintings can literally bring them alive as well giving an important sense of scale but many artists are put off because the results are unconvincing or overcomplicated. We will look at using figures in a variety of different settings and practise some very simple methods for reproducing either a small group or an entire crowd! Your landscapes will never be unpopulated again!
HARMONISING COLOURS IN YOUR ARTWORK
Saturday 30th July £39
Many artists overcomplicate their work by using too many colours or are disappointed because one colour leaps out from the painting and clashes with the rest. This workshop will introduce the concept of colour triads; using different combinations of the three primary colours to set an overall theme for the work. We will look at the Full-Spectrum Triad, Earth Triad, Water Triad and the Sun Triad and how to use them to create distinctive atmosphere and moods.
